It is set on the edge of a small hillside village with the sea to the west (hence some spectacular sunsets) and the Taigetos mountains to the east. This is rural Greece at its best, where the villagers wave as they pass by on their way to work in the olive groves or to tend their sheep and goats. The nightlife here is listening to the cicadas and watching the lights of the fishing boats in the bay. There are excellent tavernas only 5 minutes drive down the hill, and the gently sloping Santava beach is just 5kms. This beautiful area of Greece begs to be explored, with the historic sites of Mystra, Messini and Olympia all easily reached for a day trip, and walking the Taigetos gorges is not to be missed.
