Bahrain is an Oasis of Cultural Enlightenment !

I take it all back. Bahrain IS an Oasis of Cultural Enlightenment. On a recent visit discovered - by chance - that they are putting on the 14th (!!!) Bahrain Music Festival. Went to a performance of Haydn's Imperial 'Nelson' Mass. Wow !
And it was FREE !Walter21 May 2007, 10:24

Keep your eyes and ears open for the next International Festival. Probably just after Ramadan.
Best concerts I have seen for ages. After the Manama Singers doing Haydn I took in another one where the performers were the Royal Omanii Symphony. WOW ! Supercool !
Apparently Sultan Q woke up one morningand decreed:'We shall have a Symphony Orchestra !' And they did. Benevolent Despotism works !Walter21 May 2007, 10:25 - Report -
And Walter - the Omanis have been regular participants in the Edinburgh Festival since 1980.Lorenzo21 May 2007, 10:27 - Report

I agree. You do have to keep your eyes and ears open, but there is a huge variety of entertainment, culture and inspiration to be had in Bahrain. The Museum, La Fontaine ( a bit expensive), I recently saw a live play at the Dilmun Club which was excellent. Long live 'cultural enlightenment' and long live Bahrain and it's diverse and multi cultural inhbitants.Greg Millard25 Apr 2008, 03:49 - Report
