Sara,
You gotta look in Saar area. Rents have gone up like crazy during last one year or so but with your budget, you should be able to find something without much troubeY08 Feb 2008, 08:20 - Report -

My husband is considering a job offer in Bahrain. Our housing allowance is 500BDH/month. Can we find a 2 bedroom flat in a decent expat community? We would also like to get an idea of the average monthly cost of living for a couple.maria26 Apr 2009, 09:48 - Report

Hi All who have recently posted.
Rental prices have shot up so much these past few months, it will be very difficult to rent anything for a sensible price. A flat for 500BD is the 'expat' area of Saar/Budaiya will be like looking for a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Finding a villa for less than 1,400 BD is just as difficult. Even the websites are misleading, we thought we would be okay with our budget as there are plenty of villas available in our price range. When we started looking here, these 'available' villas were no longer available and the 'new to the market' ones were few and a whole lot more expensive. Often we'd see villas advertised, arrange viewings and find we'd seen the place already but with another agent.
The best place to look id the gulf daily news, they have a classified section with accom. They have a web page too. Oh, and villas are either exclusive or inclusive. That means they either include or exclude municipality tax and electric. The tax is 10% of your monthly rent if the place is 'semi'furnished or 8% for furnished. The electricity here is about 10BD a month with the air con and water heater on full time.
Sorry I couldn't be more positive folks!BritMum31 May 2009, 07:21 - Report -
we live in a 3 bed villa which we moved to a couple of months ago. I don't know why people always say that 1200 isn't enough!!!. Ours costs BD650 including water (excluding electricity, internet).anon26 Jun 2009, 03:28 - Report
