Non married female looking to move with her boyfriend.
My de facto 'husband' has been offered a job in dubai for 2 years. i understand de facto relationships are not recognised in UAE. I would be interested in working and possibly studying in Dubai while living with my boyfriend. i have heard that people can get prosecuted/deported if they live together and are not legally married or related. Is this something i really need to worry about?
What type of visa would i be able to obtain to remain in dubai for 2years and be allowed to work and/or study?
any help on this would be great.

Hilarious, i love the way some people are actually trying to pick up on this site. I have a lot of friends living in Dubai with their partners and are not married. It is not a problem. Dubai is 95% expats these days.
I know someone who lives in dubai and has permanent residency.
My question is does her permanent residency give her the opportunity to obtain a visa from dubai, what is her status in dubai, and what other rights do she have because of her status in dubai?

Albeit in the west it is a legal relationship in the UAE it is not. Thus...you need to be aware that if anything goes wrong or if someone decides to report you or whatever, you will be arrested and deported.
Thus...I advise you not to put yourselves at risk abroad! Why not have a marriage contract when you arrive in Dubai...possibly an islamic one, I hear christians can have them too...then if you want to divorce you can and it is easy under sharia marriage. It can be done in a week!

i am here in dubai for the last 3 years.. my sincere advise, try to obtain a work visa ( i mean get a job and come here on work visa). as u are aware, ur "defacto" husband cannot be ur sponsor under new rules (with effect from July 29, 2008). so work visa is the best solution for u.
as far as living together, yes u r perfectly correct that "living together" of unrelated couples is not accepted here in middle east including dubai. a good alternative, get 2 accomodations (one for each of u) very close by. let one be a standby. in case u sense "difficulty" be in ur place. Good luck.
