Expats legally working full-time in Hong Kong will generally be covered by an employer-sponsored health insurance plan. Employees often have an option to pay additional fees which increase the level of cover.
If you don’t get an insurance plan from your company or your sponsoring institution, you will have to look for an insurance policy yourself. A basic insurance plan will cover the cost of GP consultation and outpatient treatment, hospitalization, and maternity care.
Dental care is usually not included in basic insurance plans. There are additional policies available which will provide this or you may be able to extend your health cover. The insurance market in Hong Kong is competitive, so shop around to find a plan that gives you the best price/service-ratio and reflects your personal needs. If you are working for a multinationals, you may be entitled to substantial private healthcare as part of your package.
