When looking for an apartment with a realestate agent, please keep in mind that you have to pay fees. Your advantage is that you can only pay them when you find exactly what you are looking for and sign the contract with the rental office. (usually different from the one helping you find your apartment)
The fee is not fixed, but from my experience it's usually half of the monthly rent of the aprtment you've just signed the contract for.
Some agents might ask you to pay in advance. Dont! Usually they are very patient with you and if they are really really good, they take you to see 4-5 apartments at a time and show you the worst/cheapest ones first
Also look in the newspapers, they have an add section for realestate, job opening, cars for sale etc. called Al Waseet, (it's for free and it's in arabic and you find sevel versions in the local baqqala or shops) so you might need a local colleague to help you interpret the adds...

^that's nice, however if you want to experience Islamic culture i suggest you go to Iran... the GCC states have (sadly) got Islam ass backwards, not that Iran is the ultimate practitioner of the religion, it's just the closest one to it - KSA is headed by a dictator who bans western education when the first word to come down on the prophet is read. Kuwait has Islamists with a second grade education legislating, and that's the case with the GCC states... Iran, though ultra conservative, is better practitioner of Islam than any country i (inst and hist major in Kuwait) can think of.

i visited kuwait to check the situation before the final move and i found out that the rent cost is too high, i am really surprised it is not much better than dubai, we are running away from Dubai thinking that what is happening in dubai is crazy, but Kuwait is not better, i was searching in gulf road and salmiya, i liked gulf road the most but the prices are arround 900-1200 for 3 bed rooms flat, it is almost the same rent price we pay in Dubai. in terms of other things, kuwait is not that bad, i was expecting worse than that, we were walking at the cornishe and it was nice, the few restaurants we visited were very much american style although it is mentioned italian, in general they are good, restaurants are more expensive than dubai, maybe because the dinar is higher in value than the dirham, as a summary, kuwait is expensive and if you do not get a very good package DONT GO>
