As a teacher, working abroad is an attractive option, however I am worried that, as I am also a young (24) gay guy, possibly aiming to go for jobs in the Middle East might be a problem because of the strict rules in Islam forbidding homosexuality. Can anyone offer any advice / share their experiences?
first let me clarify something, Islam is not against being gay, simply becuase in the dictionary gay means happy!.
but yes Islam takes a strong stance against homosexuality, but if you don't practice your homosexuality here, you will be fine, and you better not be caught doing such a thing,
by the way we are getting lots of gay tourists here from all over Europe and they are doing fine, so you should be fine as well as far as you dont practice it you will be fine.
i would advice you to read about Islam and the Omani culture before taking your decision of accepting the Job
Hi - I'm also your age and also moving to Oman soon to take up a new job from the UK. From my research there doesn't seem to much in the way of gay life, but the attitude seems to be one of non interference by the authorities, as long as you don't flaunt your sexuality. Maybe I'll see you there!
