First of all don't believe anything you read in the press or what freinds tell you! I am single and have been here a while. The social life is excellent and fun. my advice though is DO NOT BREAK ANY RULES. Basically there are two lives here. Those inside the compound and that outside. I dont mind the abaya and not driving. Inside the conpound you live as you do at home. I would say though that people make more of an effort! Make sure you take up any invite- try anything! Even loitering in the compond shop is a good way to meet people. An active socail life revolves around diving too. Introduce yourself to people, invite people round(of both sexes!) but be very wary of traveling out with single men in car. Mostly they assume you are married. We go through check points and they have not asked for ID. HOwever a frioend knows someone jailed for 2 weeks (not an pleasant experience) for being caought out with a single man. My advice. Get taxis(when expereineced here) -use the registered compund Limountil then (-taxi drivers do not necessarily know where they are going and jeddah is impossible to navigate!) Organise and attend parties on componds only. Be a good "Muslim woman outside" and party on inside. There are LOTS of men here ( quite a few marraied thouigh) have a great time. If lonely when you get here and not into singles set write again on forum I could introduce you.
