Our daughter wants to travel from the US to South Africa to study for a semester. Any exchange students out there who can tell us about their experiences?

Study abroad
Tell her to do it! I just returned from SA; I spent a semester studying nursing at the University of Cape Town and it was by far the MOST wonderful decision I made in my life to do so. I was one of the hardest decisions to leave home (Connecticut) and do it, but I have absolutely NO regrets at all. I NEVER felt unsafe there at all; you just have to be street smart like you would in any city in the world. I have so, so many wonderful experiences and stunning photos to look back on.
I loved my time there so much that I am actually considering going back this summer to visit, and then maybe even come back to work there in the future.
If your daughter doesn't go for this study abroad and lets such a once in a lifetime opportunity pass her by, she will regret it for the rest of her life. Trust me. When I saw my peers back in school here at home, all of them kept saying over and over, "oh I wish I would have gone" when they here all about the wonderful adventures I had.
Please encourage her to do it; she will need the encouragement and support and will thank you so much when she gets back hame with so many wonderful memories to look back on!!!
