ANOTHER INVASION?

The coastline of Alicante Province seems set to be the scene for another immigrant invasion, according to several sources, who stated that immigrants are constantly seeking ways to enter the EU illegally. This warning was issued to the Guardia Civil by the Italian authorities who themselves have been subjected to a similar ‘invasion’ in recent weeks. Sources inside the Alicante Barracks of the Guardia Civil have expressed concern at this information, adding that they do not have the resources necessary to combat or control any illegal immigrants.

It was revealed last night that the battle between the Valencian Government and the European Union over the LUV land laws is to be heard in the European court in Luxembourg next year. The two sides are apparently making a firm stance on the issue, and no reconciliation or halfway point appears to be reachable. In the meantime, the Valencian Government is set to make an official response in December to the EU proposals over the LUV and seem set to announce three modifications to the law, but this is not expected to affect the court case. The alterations to the LUV are said to be: altrerations in the valuation process for the urbanizer; removing clause 135.3B over the prerequisites set for urbanizers and the third has to do with the supposed case of the urbanizer going bankrupt. These three alterations are not expected to alter the stance of the EU over the law, and the case is expected to be heard next February.

OTHER NEWS

On the very eve of the debate over Eta/Batasuna and the Spanish ‘peace process’ in the European parliament, the Basque terror organization late yesterday confirmed that it was behind a robbery in France of some 300 pistols and 50 revolvers, in a clear attempt to rearm itself. Also yesterday the Association for the Victims of Terrorism issued an appeal to the Euro MPs ‘not to betray the memory’ of those who died at the hands of Eta. This statement was made as members of Eta/Batasuna arrived in Brussels and gave several press conferences.

September has proven to be a disastrous month for the pro-Royalist daily paper ABC, whose sales fell by a huge 36.6% last month alone. Many observers have stated that this was probably due to its change in editorial policies that appear to have aligned it with the pro-Socialist El Pais newspaper, which also registered a drop in sales of over 10% in September. Meanwhile, another editorial policy – that of continuing its investigations into the March 11 bombings – has proven to be a boon for the El Mundo newspaper that this week celebrates its 17th year of existence, as sales of the paper rose by 13% in September. The September fall in circulation for ABC comes on top of earlier drops in sales in July and August, when ABC fell by 23 and almost 20% respectively.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Through he lawyers yesterday, Heather Mills announced that she is intending to sue two UK newspapers – the Daily Mail and its sister publication the London Evening Standard – for publishing ‘false, damaging and immensely upsetting statements’ in the case of her much-publicized divorce from Sir Paul McCartney. The statement from lawyers Mishcon de Reya also revealed that legal action would also be undertaken against the Sun newspaper, but gave no other details.

Meanwhile, as Sir Paul’s close aides virulently rebuffed the accusations of violence cited by Miss Mills, another court case still looms on the horizon: that of another Heather Mills, who is a journalist for the satirical review Private Eye, and claims that the former Lady McCartney tried to steal her identity on a number of occasions.
