Since he has decided not to present himself for re-election next May as the Socialist President of Extremadura, a post he has held for a great number of years, Juan Carlos Rodriguez Ibarra, who was never one to hide his views, has recently given an extensive interview to a leading daily paper. In it, he has some very harsh words for the policy of Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and his negotiations with the Basque terror group Eta. He stated that ‘every time there is a new Prime Minister, Eta always puts an offer for talks on the table’ and went on: “If these talks were to go ahead, I would sit at the table with the head of the opposition beside me, and jointly we would tell them ‘look, I who rule Spain at this time say no to talks, and the persion sitting next to me, who may be Prime Minister soon, also refuses to enter into negotiations. You should loose any hope in this regard’”.
