An Illinois judge has issued arrest warrants for Joan Clos, the former Mayor of Barcelona and now Industry Minister, Carmen Calvo, the Minister for Culture and all the other members of the Administrative Council of the Forum of Barcelona – including Josep Pique, the President of the Partido Popular in Catalunia. Under the court decision, any of those on the docket could be arrested if they travel to the United States. The action stems from a case undertaken by Think Big Productions after the company entered into a contract with the Forum to make an Imax film on Sant Jordi with the aim of promoting Catalunia

The Culture Department of the Andalucian Council has started a claim against Iberia Airlines after the company delayed flying to Washington the costumes and sets for a show to be staged by Cristina Hoyos and her Flamenco Ballet in the Flamenco Festival 2006 that took place last February. The action comes after all the performances scheduled by Miss Hoyos and her troupe had top be cancelled – one of which saw the audience already in their seats. The Festival took place between January 19 and February 18 this year in such US cities as New York, Chicago, Washington, Boston and Miami, and Iberia lost part of the luggage for the Hoyos Company that resulted in the non-appearance of the troupe leading to losses of $80,000

It would seem that Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has resorted to his habitual shyness on the international stage by refusing to appear in the group photograph following an EU/Asian summit that took place in Helsinki. He also refused to appear at the traditional press conference following the meeting, and left it to his Communications Secretary Fernando Moraleda. Mr. Zapatero was the only high-ranking member of government at the meeting who reacted in this way following the meeting that took place last weekend.

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

In a speech from the White House yesterday m- the fifth anniversary of 9/11, United States President George W. Bush stated that the fight against terrorism ‘ is the decisive ideological combat of the 21st century.’ He also warned Osama Bin Laden: “The United States will find you and bring you to justice.” Meanwhile, in a videotape aired yesterday on Al-Jazeera TV, Al Qaeda No 2 Ayman al-Zawahri stated that the Persian Gulf Countries and Israel would be the next targets for the terror group, He added: “ You should not waste your time in reinforcing your troops in Iraq and Afghanistan because their fate is doomed, instead, you have to reinforce your troops in two regions. First is the Gulf, where you will be thrown out, and the second is Israel.”

EXPLANATION DEMANDED

The European union has officially demanded that the Madrid Government present a report over the offer to buy the Izar plant at Manises. According to Enrique Martinez Robles of the government organisation SEPI has officially requested more information ‘ and when we have it, it will be sent to Brussels’. This has apparently caused great unease amongst the Manises employees of Izar.
