Violence once again became the name of the game in Catalunia yesterday, at a meeting of the Partido Popular. Attending the campaign rally were Angel E-Acebes, the Secretary General of the Party and Josep Pique the former Foreign Minister and the President of the Party in Catalunia. As the meeting began, both were greeted with shouts of ‘Fascists’ and ‘Killers’ that later continued as pushing and shoving then took over, with the result that both men were forced to leave under a strong escort from the Guardia Civil.

It would now appear that the Socialists have finally found a candidate to run against incumbent Alberto Ruiz Gallardon for the mayor’s seat of Madrid: former Defence Minister Jose Bono. Previously, Mr. Bono had stated that he was ‘not interested’ in running for office against Mr. Ruiz Gallardon, but now he appears to have altered his opinion.
North Korea appears to have carried out a second nuclear test according to reports on Japanese station NHK this morning. Sources inside the Japanese Government have told the broadcaster that there was a tremor in North Korea this morning and that they were checking on the possibility of another nuclear test. Defying warnings from its neighbours as well as the United States and the United Nations Security Council, North Korea announced on Monday that it had a-carried out its first-ever nuclear test., as a statement from Pyongyang revealed that the ‘US threat of nuclear war and sanctions’ had forced its hand.
