Driving in Thailand:

Validity of foreign driving licenses

Driving in Thailand:

If you wish to drive in Thailand you may wish to hold a Thai driving licence. Though international drivers´ licenses are legally accepted, a Thai drivers licence allows you to avoid the farang prices (higher prices for foreigners) on toll roads.

To obtain the Thai drivers licence you will need to provide:

  • proof you have good knowledge of the Thai language
  • a valid passport with a valid non-immigration visa and signed copies
  • a medical certificate
  • 2 passport photos
  • a valid international driving licence

Until recently, it was possible to purchase your driving licence in Thailand without passing any exams. As these drivers are still on Thailand´s streets, you should have a proper think before entering Thailand's traffic jungle.
