Need help on residency / work permit

Hi all you helpful folk..

I'm a 25 year old New Zealand citizen about to make an application to live and work in germany.

I'm seeking other peoples experiance with such matters, so as to put forward the most comprehenisve application possible and avoid dissapointment.

I have a german girlfriend, so have an address and family to give support.

I've been in germany 1 month of my 3 month visa allocation and have found potential for small jobs, although I'M unsure weather these employers are willing to become an official sponser with a contract for me etc.. I have a current WOrking holiday visa for the UK and will most likely have to return there to await the outcome of my residence permit application.

I'm aware thatr Visa applications are often 'apply once and do it properly' situation.. so I don't want to screw it up. I'm alos unsure weather the fact that I'M in a de facto relationship with a german citizen works in my favour or not..?

I'd be really appreciative to hear from anyone who has undergone the process or could offer any insights that may be of use.

Cheers all..
Take care.

Being darefull...
I will probably be accused of the worst kind of obscenity for even SUGGESTING this. Have you thought about marrying your German girl ?

Hmmm.. yes.. - but!
I've considered it. But it just seems to cheapen the relationship to do something like that.. and besides.. we're only 6 months in.. and shes proving a firey one.. So I'm not sure about that commitment.

Try out a WHM visa...
Just a suggestion....why dont you apply for a WHM visa for Germany?

That way you can see if the relationship lasts the distance without committing yourself too far. If you get the WHM visa and then you decide you wish to work and live here longer it is quite easy to get a residency and work permit. That is exactly what I have done...I'm from Australia and living in Frankfurt with my German girlfriend.

work permit
Hi..I have an upcming internship in Germnay. The company there is reay to sponsor my workpapers etc. Infact, the company has already the workpermit ,called the ZAV and will be sending to me shortly. I will be required to apply for a visa with the work permit. I wanted to know if anyone has any idea of how much long it takes them to process the visa.

Work permit
Hi! Normally a work permit is issued within a couple of weeks. In reality, however, this process can take much longer. The best is to apply as soon as possible (which has to be done by your employer)

Visa Help!
What is a WHM Visa?

I am an American currently still living in the US, but my dream for years now is to move to Berlin.

I also have a boyfriend over there and a large group of very supportive friends.

I am looking for work over there but don't speak German Not yet at least. I know that once I am living there for a few months I will learn it in a jiffy. But I cannot afford to live there without a job.

Any suggestions?

How did you others who live there now do it?

WHM visa
A WHM (or WHV) is a working holiday visa for Germany. This allows you to work for a total of 3 months in one year.

Getting a job without any German knowledge is really challenging. You can of course go into language teachning, but that doesn't pay a lot. However, if you move in with your boyfriend at first, you probably don't need that much money to survive in the first place. The best thing is to start on a part-time or low-paid job and then apply for a real one as you learn German. Obviously, your job chances depend also on your education background, but in general the job market is not really great here right now..

Desperate for a Work Visa
Getting a job in Germany without knowing German is definitely difficult. I am trying to learn but it has been my experience that you don't really learn a language until you live in a country it is spoken. At any rate, would anyone know where I can apply for language schools to teach English? I am actually a freelance instructor for Inlingua, although if truth be told I haven't taught that many classes.

I will do whatever it takes so I can move to Berlin. My qualifications are actually pretty good, my down fall is that I don't speak German and I'm not an EU citizen.

Can anyone give me some advise on how to proceed?

English courses & schools
Hi!

You can just go to www.gelbeseiten.de and type in "Englischkurse". Another alternative might be to contact the British council in Germany which is giving English courses as well. Other schools include Berlitz (pretty big). Or you can post your search in the jobs classifieds on Just Landed.

For the permit, the best is probably to come to Germany on a tourist visa first (which means you'll probably have to work unofficially in the beginning).

Good luck on your search!

working unofficially in Germany...
Be careful working unofficially in Germany.. It can get you in trouble and possibly lead to getting barred from the country.

Not speaking from personal experience.. just passing on what I've been told.

I'm in Germany living with a host family for 4 1/2 months. I do not pay anybody and nobody pays me. I have a unique relationship with the school that I'm at. What would happen if I don't get a residence permit?
