• Can anyone tell me if there are job opportunities for for technical consultants from Europe in the larger Canadian cities?

  you should check www.workopolis.com, www.monster.ca or even www.Linkedin.com. The first two are job posting sites and surely you will find something there that fits your profile.
  
  The market here is tough though, especially for foreigners without "canadian" experience.
