Could someone please tell me what exactly is a local call in canada!!

  • I'm coming to Canada for a holiday next week. in the wilds (well nearly wild) of the Near North. To keep daughter happy (& son & me) I want to get a dial up internet access, mainly for MSN, from a phone with 'free local calls'.

It seems that with 10 digit dialing the first 3 digits are the area code, the next 3 are the local code & the last 4 are the actual line number.

Is a local call, a call within the area code? the first 3 digits. Or is it within the local code? the next three digits.

I can't find a clear definition on any of the service provider's sites, they just keep saying 'free local calls'!!!

If someone out there can help, I'll be a really happy bunny.
