  • english no problem

hello. don´t worry to much, most austrians speak decent english and you will be able to survive no problem. of course it is considered impolite to speak english to an austrian without asking "sprechen sie/sprichst du englisch?" (do you speak english?) first, even though it´s usually just a formality. it will be appreciated if you learn a couple of basic phrases like "bitte" (please), "danke" (thank you) and "entschuldigung" (excuse me/i´m sorry). good luck!

  • It depends

It depends where you company will be sending you and how long you will be staying in Austria. The previous comments are correct, but you should make the effort to learn some German.

Eventually, as time goes by, the people around you will be expecting you to speak some German.
