studying in buenos aires

  • I'm planning to study in buenos aires for about 3-4mos from about May/June-August/Sept next year. I've read that a tourist visa could be all I need which is good for 90 days. If I were to stay longer I could just reapply for another 90 days. What experience does anyone have with this? Is it better or safer to just go ahead & get a student visa? What kind of time, cost, & preparation am I looking at with attempting to get a student visa? I'd appreciate any info or experience people can offer.

Visa is for 3 months, you can renew going to Uruguay (Colonia), or Chile (Santiago).

Visa for students can delay a lot of time.

  • Visas

I am a Londonder living in Argentina and have no problem renewing my visa every three months at the immigration office in the city that I live in. I also have an Australian friend living in Buenos Aires and he has renewed his visa every three months for the past two years without having to leave the country. Not sure what the fee is, but not too much.

  • Hi there!!

    Hi Michelle,
What could u tell me about living in Argentina? I went to Spain for 5 years (1999-2004) and it was a great experience for me. Now I'm living in Buenos Aires like you. If you want, write me an e-mail: [email removed]

    Take care!

  • Living in Argentina

As Michelle said, you don't need to cross over to Uruguay every three months, instead you can renew your tourist visa at the immigration office ( http://www.clickargentina.com/glossary/direccion-nacional-de-migraciones/ ), it's possible they'll ask you for proof of sufficient funds to cover your next three months in the country, but I don't think that is common.

Flavia, this is what I think of living in Argentina:
