No restrictions on foreign ownership?

Is it true that in canada there are no restrictions on foreign ownership of real estate? If so, does this mean that it is pretty easy to buy property overthere as a foreigner?

Foreign ownership
There are usually no restrictions when you want to buy real estate. However, when you want to sell it again and you have no legal status (landed immigrant for example) you can run into difficulties. I know that in BC it can be very hard to sell again without a legal status.
