Paris is famous is France for beeing Paris. Ah les parisiens! You can enjoy life in Paris if you stay away from the touristic places. The quartier latin and the marai are very nices parts of Paris. Very French and young. Avoid Montmatre as the place is not really nice. In terms of Arrondissement the nicest are 1er, 2eme, 6e, 8e, 9e, 15e.
Otherwise go to the Limousin, it's deep rural France, very peacefull. Otherwise the city of Marseille is great because of the folklore. It's like Paris, another French speciality. People are celebrating l'apéro with Pastis (the typical French drink for l'apéro). Try to have à bouillabaisse on the vieux port.
As long as you stay away from the classical foreign tourist desinations you will be with the french.
