How much does a room in Paris cost?

  • Hi everybody! I want to move to Paris next month but I'm a little scared of finding accomodation. I heard that rents are really expensive over there. Does anyone know how much I'd have to pay for a simple room in a shared flat? Also, I need to find a cheap place where I can stay until I find something permanent. Any suggestions?

  • Room costs, and other useful info!

    Hi,
To rent a room in Paris (intra-muros), you will need to pay anywhere from 350euros/month to 1000+euros a month.

It is simple: what you pay for depends on the quality of your lodgings. Prices vary according to the location, the local services (shops, etc.) The cost of renting a room in a shared apartment may be slightly cheaper than renting an individual apartment, however the number of adverts for sharing an apartment is very limited. You may find offers if you are a local student, in Paris, and the university may have bulletin boards with offers from fellow students.

You can possibly check out the weekly newspaper called "De-Particulier-A-Particulier" (http://www.pap.fr - or found in all local kiosks) where you can finds ads from Parisiens. These ads are not through an estate agency and so could save you some money. Important: be quick though, or else the best apartments will have already been rented on the day the paper gets out (on thursdays)

Other than that, the magazine "FUSAC" (FRANCE USA CONTACTS - http://www.fusac.com - or found in many english-speaking pubs/bars in Paris) may have ads in them from people wanting to share an apartment.

If all else fails then pick up a free magazine from outside any estate agent, and you should find some ads offering apartments for renting.

    Good luck!
