opening a bank account from abroad

  • Not yet landed, I'm trying to move money to France in anticipation of my move. I opened an account at Credit Lyonnais through their NY office over a year ago, but they send me no statements and don't respond to letters or faxes. I'd love to switch banks, but can't seem to make it happen from the U.S. and am now worried about the money I did move. Can anyone recommend a way to open a none resident account for the short term with a responsive bank? Thank you

  • Online account

Why don't you just open an online account? Try AXA banque or ING Direct. The latter is an international bank so you should have no problems.

  • ING Direct - french account in English?

I would *love* to open an ING Direct french account, but my problem is that we do not (yet!) speak or read French.

Thus, our options are very limited.

Does anyone know of a place where we can open a French bank account, but have the services in English?

We are coming from Canada. (We found the britline bank, but unfortunately they only accept british residents..)

    Thanks!
