are boarding houses actually ok to live in

im a student moving to japan soon. i heard that boarding houses are good places to live for cheap but that you dont get showers or anything there. are they clean to a decent level or are they disgusting? if disgusting does anyone who went to japan know good, cheap places to live (toko area)

yeah but it takes some adjustment. The biggest thing is probably the public baths, and the small size of the rooms. price cant be beat tho
