Beware employment scams

  • Just wanted to tell jobseekers not to contact the supposed 'agencies' above or give out personal details, which can be used in identity theft to set up bank accounts in your name in order to to carry out financial scams that you will be held responsible for (often for thousands of dollars).

Also, if you receive emails from supposed employers offering you a job, ask to see the workplace, get details of the job on offer, meet with managers and other staff there, etc - no genuine employer will object and it may save you from being cheated by someone who will sound very plausible and promise you a job, only to take your bank account details and use them to empty your account or use your personal details to run scams as explained above.

Reputable agencies don't recruit on sites other than their own or on specialist sites. Unless you are in an extremely highly qualified specialist field, no employer will pay for you to travel from abroad, so be VERY wary of anyone who says they'll pay your fares, especially if you 'only' have to pay them a registration fee - real employment agencies don't charge fees to jobseekers, but to employers, and anyone asking you for a fee will disappear with your money.
