How and where to look

The property search

Many expats who move to Peruvian cities choose to rent a house or a flat, due to the increasing property prices over the last few years. If you are not interested in purchasing a property, have a look at our Housing and Rentals guide.

Most of the people who move to and decide to purchase a property in Peru opt for the services of a realtor (estate agent), who is familiar with the property market and the process of buying a home. Here are a few real estate agencies often used by expats:

  • CMI International  (large agency focused on Lima with property management services available, website in English)
  • Colliers International Lima  (offer a variety of property services and are well experience with expatriates and foreign investors, website in English)
  • Corporacion Inmobiliaria Mak  (office in Lima, will take you right through the whole purchasing process, website in English)

Where to buy a property

Expats tend to buy a new home in bigger cities, due to the higher availability of jobs and cultural offerings. Some of the most popular cities for buying property in Peru are Lima, Callao, Arequipa, Cuzco, Trujillo and Iquitos.

Lima is the cultural and business center of Peru, as well as the capital and biggest city in the country. It is the most expensive Peruvian city, however considering that the cost of living in Peru is not very high, it is still a very affordable location. Some of the most expensive neighbourhoods in Lima include Miraflores, San Isidro, Santiago de Surco, La Molino and San Borja, whilst neighbourhoods like Magdalena and Surquillo are much cheaper, however not as affluent as those mentioned above.
