New to RSA... what to do in ...?

  • Hi!

I am an Indian traveling to RSA, more specifically to Durban in a couple of weeks. My trip will be for three months and I am a bit concerned about Security in RSA.
Of course, events do happen in every place, but with racism, culture new to a person, we are never sure of what happens!
I would like to know what are the different places in and around Durban, shoppping, cost of living, tips and guidelines about people in RSA, cultures, communities ....every bit of worthy information.
Can anyone help me out in this ??

    Cheers,

Hi, born and bred in S.A., living for the past 3 years in Europe. I went back for holiday in April 2008.
Durban is lovely, just be careful and on the look out e.g. don't put your bag where it is visible / accessible. Always have your doors locked in car as well as at home. There are a few shopping malls. One on your way to Pietermaritzburg, one to Umhlanga's way. English speaking (allmost everybody) and friendly. Don't go out late at night all by yourself and avoid lonely streets.
For true experience go to Tourist info from where they can book tours for you or advise of best places to go. (Shaka's world, Crocworld, Howick, Nature reserve's, Botanical gardens to name a few)
Hope you have a wonderful 3 months in S.A. and enjoy the S.A.'s Indian CURRY.
