Living in Switzerland is too damn expensive

  • Seriously, buying a house in switzerland must cost more than anywhere else in the world, for a small ass crappy living space. I know that in Zurich it costs more than any other place in the world per square meter. And if you want to live in the lakeside or Zurichsee, you might as well live on the moon.

Better to live somewhere else in Europe, you get MUCH better value for your money than in this shithole called Switzerland

  • Switzerland is a rip off

I totally agree, it's way too expensive. Even if your facts are not spot on, who cares, your point is! And the Italian living in Switzerland obviously knows about living with mommy and daddy!

  • Surely there's good with bad

    Hi guys,

I'm currently living in Sydney (Australia) and will be for another couple of years.

While I love living in Sydney my girlfriend(she's German) and I are considering moving to Switzerland and from our little research we have done so far Zurich looks like the place we would like to move to.

I understand everyone has different views of Switzerland based on their experience and perspective.

    A few questions:

    1) is Zurich the most vibrant city in Ch?
    2) how easy/difficult would it be for an english speaking person find a finance job in CH (hopefully in Zurich)? I do speak Italian and am considering doing a german course
    3) what is the best city (in CH) for an english speaking person to work in finance?
    4) if you are familiar with Zurich what is/are good areas to live in within 5kms from the City centre and what are the "not" so good areas to live in? We would like to be close to schools, sporting complex and a nice area with coffee shops etc (a nice village feel).

I would really appreciate if you could help with some of these questions.

    my email is [email removed]

    Thanks,

    Daniel & Jasmin

  • Moving to Switzerland

If you work in banking, you'll be fine with English, although if the locals in ZH are anything like they are down here in Geneve, they'll appreciate it if you try and speak or learn the local dialect. I've only been to Zurich once, but compared to Geneve it seemed to me to be a much more lively and interesting city. There were some great bars and restaurants, although like everything else in this country a night out isn't cheap. Canton tax is cheaper up there to, especially if you live in Zug which is another canton not far from Zurich. If you go there though, apparently don't count on making many friends with the locals!

Not sure if that's a help, just my thoughts. Good luck!
