  • Plenty of options

If you are looking to work in a city, there are plenty of better options than London. Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Cardiff are the obvious places to recommend. Which city would suit best depends on what sector you are looking for work in. If you can get work in Edinburgh, then that would be my number one recommendation. It's big enough to have all the services you should need from a city, and yet within half an hour you can be deep into the Scottish countryside.

  • Financial Centres

Besides London, which UK city is regarded as the most important financial centre?

  • London is the financial centre

Without doubt, London is where the majority of all financial activity is based. However, many of the retail financial organsations and the back-office operations have been moved out of the capital for cost reasons. For instance JP Morgan has a lot of their clerical work in Bournemouth on the South Coast. There are also financial organisations in various Northern cities in England, for instance the UK bit of the Canadian stockbrokerage TD Waterhouse is based in Leeds (or Manchester - one of the two).
