uk visit visa extension

My girlfriend who is a ukraininan national has a 6 month visit visa for the uk. Is it possible for her to get it extended whilst she is in the uk or does she have to get another visa from ukraine? Also is it likely that she would get a 2 year one or is it better to apply for another one for 6 months?
