Phone books, enquiries and important numbers

Local phone books, white pages and yellow pages are available free of charge from the phone companies. If you get a telephone installed, you will receive free copies of the phone book. They are published annually and are delivered to your address.

The white pages list people’s names and phone numbers in alphabetical order by surname, while the yellow pages have categories ranging from doctors and pharmacies to craftsmen. Local phone books, yellow pages and the area code book can also be found in phone booths and post offices.

Directory Enquiries

If you do not have a telephone directory or you need to find a number in a different area, you can call Directory Enquiries. For local directory inquires, dial 411. If you need assistance for other areas dial 1 plus the three-digit area code of the place you want to call, followed by 555-1212. Note that this call will be charged as a long-distance call.

You can contact the international operator by dialing 00 if you need to find an international number. Be aware that international directory assistance can be very expensive.

Internet enquiries

You will find all telephone book listings on the web at www.whitepages.com , where you can also obtain a list of all registered email addresses. Yellow pages can be found under www.yellowpages.com .
