What is a study visa?

A South African study visa allows a foreign national to enroll with a registered primary, secondary or tertiary institution of education within the country, it also permits the holder 20 hours of part-time employment per week.

Who can apply?

Any student who intends to enroll with a primary or secondary school (whether public or independent), college, further education and training institution, university, specialist skills school or other “learning institution” is eligible for a study visa South Africa – provided the institution is accredited by the Ministry of Basic and Higher Education.

What is an Exchange Visa?

Exchange Visas may be issued to foreigners who wish to participate in cultural, economic or social exchange programmes administered by an organ of the State or a public higher educational institution in conjunction with an organ of a foreign state.

The validity period of an exchange visa depends on the length of the programme for which it is issued, however usually does not exceed 12 months. Exchange visas cannot be renewed or extended. 


Who can apply?

Applicants for an exchange visa should be no older than 25 years of age, and have an offer of exchange with an accredited public or educational entity within South Africa.
