Getting a C permit for non-EU

• I'd be interested to hear from anyone who obtained a C permit in Zurich. Did it take 5 years? I'm also interested in changing jobs - and perhaps to another canton, is it true that I will lose all the time I "earned" in Zurich. I've been here for 4 years and don't want to lose that time by changing cantons.
