Citizenship & Immigration Canada

  • I have a few questions regarding immigration to Canada and the process to become a Canadian Citizen.

    1. How long does it take to become a landed immigrant in Canada? I know of a few cases in the USA where people waited for more than 7 years to become residents in the US.

    2. Once you are a resident, how do you become a Canadian Citizen?

    3. Are there any special programs for people with execptional abilities? i.e. scientists with a PhD?

    Thanks,

    Henry, from Brasil

  • Immigration Questions - Canada is not the USA

Canada is not the USA. If you arrive here as a worker, you may apply and have your documents within months and as long as 3 years (more in some instances)

You need to have lived for 3 years within the last 4 (or five, I am not sure). If you travel outside of Canada, your days may be not counted towards your residency requirements. Exceptions include : working for a Canadian Company or representing Canada abroad.

Nope that I know... are you a PhD?
