Giving birth in Greece (pref. Athens)

  • Hi all! This might sound like a odd question I know I've certainly been scolded at by those who live in Greece on another forum, telling me to stay in America. While that sounds like a very nice idea, I'd rather not. Don't get me wrong I love my country but the birthing options here kind of suck and being first generation Greek-Americans we want to have our child in Greece (preferably Athens,GR). Money isn't a problem, we just aren't sure where to start. We don't want to go to a student hospital. Are there any facilities you would recommend? Information on when we come back to the States? Any help would be so wonderful! Keep in mind it does not have to be Athens. =]

  • Less Options in Greece!

My best friend and a friend of hers gave birth in Greece last year. All my female friends say the system there is very restrictive unless you want to pay a lot of money for a csection. Greek OB's are not big on natural birth or breast feeding so if that's what you are into definatly head to Athens where its apparently alot safer and u can pay for what you want.

Don't do it! I am Greek and I have been having problems with getting support for a natural childbirth! They will either induce you at hours convenient to them OR they will give you a c section....Believe me, you will be greatly disappointed at their lack of support!
