  Citizens from the EEA area (EU countries, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein) work on the same conditions as Austrian citizens. They do not require special permits to work in Austria. Citizens from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary still require permits in accordance with the act governing employment of foreigners (AuslBG).

  The Schengen Area

  Free movement within Schengen countries

  Citizens of Schengen countries can cross the internal borders of EU member states without passport checks. A visa granted by a country of the Schengen area entitles the holder to visits of up to 90 days every 6 months in the entire Schengen area.
