Health insurance for the self employed

  • Please check carefully which insurance you take. It is not so easy to change between the two systems.
Check out this independent website (in German unfortunately).

There is a cap on the amount of money that will be taken into account to calculate the amount of money you pay for your public (non mandatory) health insurance. (only if you are self employed)
But there is also a minimum amount that is taken into account. All public health insurances assume that you earn quite a bit of money being self employed.
It may be better for you to chose private insurance - but check that you are eligible to take it out. Income over the last 3 years etc.
