    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Responsible for a number of technical and clerical skills on the delivery of pharmaceutical services under the direction and supervision of a pharmacist in accordance with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, hospital and departmental policies and procedures, in order to provide a safe and efficient standard of patient services.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

     Maintains properly the pharmacy records, documents, statistics and other paperwork in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
     Attends in-service educational programs as scheduled.
     Knows to follow and applies the aseptic technique in preparing all IV-admixtures.
     Maintains a high level of patience and tact when dealing with medical staff.
     Types labels, prepares and fills unit dose, IV admixtures, total parenteral nutrition, and chemotherapy orders.
     Maintains adequate stock of prepackaged medications and other supplies.
     Insures that all pharmaceuticals are stored in a neat organized manner and assists in maintaining the predetermined stock levels.
     Insures that all stocks in the pharmacy are “in date,” and packages all expired items for return to the warehouse for proper disposal.
     Returns all discontinued medications from the nursing units to stock, including those due to transfers, discharges, or automatic stop orders after they have been checked y a pharmacist.
     Receives stocks from the warehouse, check orders for accuracy, puts the items in the proper locations, rotates stocks, and records expiry dates on the receiving documents. Informs pharmacy management of items not received and/or expired items.
     Maintains a clean pharmacy including dispensing area, sink, and prepackaging area.
     Conducts or assists with in-service training of technicians.
     Processes daily admissions, discharges, and transfers.
     Runs errand as requested.
     Answers the telephone and inquiries as necessary in a professional manner.
     Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge skills and abilities.
     Completes all assigned tasks in a professional manner.

    STAFF PHARMACIST

     Under the supervision of the Chief Pharmacist, prepares and dispenses drugs and supplies to in- and out- patients.
     Provides concise, applicable and timely responses to request of drug information for healthcare providers and patients.
     Updates storage area assigned and facilitates stock purchasing and delivery.
     Updates assigned regulated drugs for recording.
     Supervises technicians and student interns in acquiring new skills.

    UNIT DOSE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM PHARMACIST

     Under the supervision of the Chief Pharmacist and UDDDS Section Head, prepares, delivers and charge the 24-hour medication to in-patients via the Unit Dose Drug Distribution System.
     Provides concise, applicable and timely responses to request drug information for healthcare providers and patients.
     Monitors drug therapy for charge patients.
     Determines the appropriateness of total drug therapy for patients.
     Communicates comments concerning verbally or in writing.
     Communicates to supervising Pharmacist any information or observation related to drug problems or potential problems with the drug distribution system

    COMPUTER CHARGING PHARMACIST

     Receives cleared patients for discharge.
     Prints and prepares medicines and supplies from on-line requests.
     Process the credit memos for returned medicines and supplies.
     Charge the out-patient request of medicines and supplies.
     Performs any task as delegated.





    COMPOUNDING PHARMACIST

     Reviews doctor’s order for compounding.
     Prepares and compound the requested extemporaneous prescriptions for dispensing such as Total Parenteral Nutrition, papertabs, ointments and solutions.
     Double checks the finished product for dispensing.

    DISPENSING PHARMACIST

     Reviews the prescriptions for completeness and availability.
     Prepares the medicines and supplies for dispensing.
     Refers to nurses and doctors for unavailability of medicines and supplies.
     Aids in refilling of medicines and supplies in dispensing area.
     Receives returned items for credit memo.
     Submit the daily sales to the cashier.
     Responsible for the adequate supply of bills and coins.
     Performs other task as delegated.
