    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Provides professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit, according to established standards and practice.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in accordance with established policies and procedures; may provide clinical guidance for assigned personnel in activities directed towards standards of patient care, safety and infection control.
     Performs variety of supportive and technical nursing skills and utilizes a range of equipment, supplies, medications, treatments monitoring techniques and other diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive measures in carrying out medical orders.
     Initiates and performs a range of nursing measures based on patient needs related to physical and mental comfort, positioning and mobilization, nutrition and hydration, bowel and bladder elimination, care of skin and wounds, support of respiration, hygiene, communication and other physical and mental bodily functions as required.
     Establishes therapeutic relationships with patients/families and elicits their participation in care.
     Utilizes the services of a Nursing Interpreter to ensure effective communication.
     Ensures patient confidentiality is maintained and rights are upheld.
     Plans and provides patient and family teaching during daily care relative to the understanding of the illness and treatments.
     Communicates and provides accurate and complete information, through established verbal and written reports.
     Recognizes emergencies and takes appropriate action, providing clinical guidance, direction, and coordination of activities for auxiliary staff.
     Adheres to policies and procedures.
     Participates in aspects of the unit’s total nursing program, such as patient care conferences, staff orientation, continuing education, unit meetings, total quality management, special projects and offers suggestions for improving services.
     Exercises professional behavior and is responsible for his/her actions as a Registered Nurse.
     Reports any change in patients’ condition to appropriate senior nurse.
     Performs other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.
