Ashamed of the Responses of my White countrymen

  • I am a white South African, wh6 has had the benefit of studying the social sciences in South Africa. I specialised in the history of political makeup of South Africa during Apartheid and the new dispensation. People do not have their facts straight... Firstly, affirmative action has not worked in that there is still massive socio-economic inequalities along racial lines in SA- open your eyes and look at your country and you will realise this. Secondly, Apartheid was economically disastrous for our country, not only did the ANC govt inherit a bankrupt heavily indebted state but the economy was in full recession and the inflation rate had been in double figures for 25 years. Given that the economic policies of the ANC govt are remarkable. It is time that young South Africans actually formed their own opinions and actually began practicing their some repsect for others. Also get your facts straight before engaging on a tirade, it will show you that more than half of senior level management is white male in SA, we continue to dominate the economic spectrum- all stats reflect this. Furthermore, govt departments do not neglect skills, they crave them- reflected in the stats again. I strongly believe that it is not a desire to see the past forgotten about and drive for the future that prompts such racist responses as I have read here, but rather white guilt. Even if our parents did not support apartheid, they were the only people who could change the system easily with the vote and they didn't. In political terms that reflects responsibility. THe white youth of South Africa need to embrace that responsibility, realise that Apartheid will have massive social conseqeunces for many years to come and accept the sins of the father are visited upon the son/daughter. We are the generation that has to make the wrongs of those before us right!!! I relish the opportunity to continue making my amazing country the place in history it deserves!!!
